Weather

The weather here is a city of four seasons.  The spring warms in April and tends to be in the 60s-70s.  Summers are warm and humid.  June is typically in the 80’s while July and August are in the 90’s and very humid.  It starts to get cooler in October where temps fall to the 60’s once again.  Winters can be quite cold because of the wind off the Neuse River bringing about a cold wind chill.  Temps in the winter average in the 30s-50s.

You may be asking yourself what is there to do at Cherry Point Marine Corps Base?

Area Activities

Beaches

Atlantic Beach: (35 minutes from Havelock). Beautiful beach with a boardwalk, playground for the kids, life guards and bathrooms. Tends to get really busy starting around noon and the weekends. There are limited parking spot.  Remember to bring your change, they’re metered!

Fort Macon: (40 minutes from Havelock). North Carolina State park with lots of free parking, but the lot closes when it’s full. There are no lifeguards or concession stands due to the cutbacks. There is a bathhouse with restrooms, covered picnic areas and outdoor showers. The beach is always clean. The fort is really cool to visit if the beach is not your thing.

Privacy: If you are looking to get away from the tourists, there are tons of public beach access roads off of Hwy 58 (the main road).
